Actually there is no reason to mention how big a surprice this result is. All news media in Spain and throughout Europe are analyzing what it means when the team who bought players for more than 250 million Euro are out of The Copa del Rey after 1-4 (agg) to a Segunda B team. The interesting part here is, that the best player in the second half was a substitute - Rafael van der Vaart.
Van der Vaart, who only got his five minutes on the pitch in Real Madrid's 3-2 victory in the thrilling derby contest against city rivals Atletico Madrid, came on in the second half, and instantly he was involved in the attacking wave against the Segunda B team's goal.
He added a new attacking impetus for Madrid, linking well with Kaka and although they were camped inside Alcorcon territory, the final ball lacked the right quality they so desperately needed.
Time was ticking away and Real committed more and more players in the attacking third allowing Alcorcon to make rare counter attacks into the Madrid half. Although they failed to trouble the keeper.
It was Van der Vaart who eventually found the breakthrough, with nine minutes left on the clock, smashing a fine low drive from the edge of the box to beat the brave fighting keeper Juanma low to the his bottom right hand corner.
Alcorcon defended for their lives, and deserved their aggregate victory.
It finished 1-0 and Real Madrid is now out of the Copa del Rey
